October, the month of motorsport's unsung heroes

Published on 08/10/2025, updated on 10/10/2025

Without them, nothing works!

They don’t climb onto podiums or sign autographs, yet without them, no race could take place. In October, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) dedicates an entire month to celebrating motorsport volunteers and officials around the world. This global initiative, called Volunteers and Officials Month, aims to recognise the commitment of these passionate individuals who work behind the scenes.

From Formula 1 Grand Prix races to local competitions, volunteers are everywhere: track marshals, timekeepers, doctors, circuit inspectors, safety officers, as well as those who welcome fans and handle event logistics. Their role is as varied as it is indispensable.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, emphasises in his opening message: ‘Volunteers are the beating heart of our sport. Their passion and dedication are a source of inspiration.’

A month to say thank you

Throughout October, National Sporting Authorities (NSAs) are invited to organise events, publish content on social media, present awards and share testimonials. The aim? To shine a spotlight on the women and men who give their time to make the magic of motorsport happen.

Among the proposed actions:

  • Award ceremonies: to recognise the exceptional commitment of certain volunteers.
  • Social media campaigns: using the hashtag #FIAVolunteersMonth, clubs can share photos, videos and interviews.
  • Volunteer stories: inspiring portraits to be published in the press or on websites.
  • Event activations: such as allowing a volunteer to present a trophy or go behind the scenes at a race.

Inspiring the next generation

Beyond recognition, this initiative also aims to encourage new vocations. By showcasing the diversity of roles and the personal and professional benefits of volunteering, the FIA hopes to attract a new generation of enthusiasts.

Matteo Perini, Head of Sporting Officials at the FIA, reminds us: ‘Volunteer Month is a wonderful opportunity to recognise those who make our sport possible and to encourage tomorrow’s volunteers to join us.’

A global commitment

With thousands of volunteers mobilised each year, this global celebration is a tribute to their hard work. It reminds us that behind every flag waved, every decision made during a race, every spectator welcomed, there is a volunteer watching over them.

So, this October, whether you are a driver, a fan or an organiser, take a moment to thank those who make motorsport possible. Because without them, racing would be nothing more than a dream.

ACL says THANK YOU!

Motor sport in Luxembourg thrives on the dedication of countless people working behind the scenes. ACL Sport regularly relies on the commitment of volunteers and officials to organise and ensure the smooth running of the many motor racing events held in the Grand Duchy.

This year, their numbers have almost doubled, rising from 28 to 55 licence holders, clear evidence of a growing enthusiasm for volunteering in the world of motor sport.

The entire ACL team would like to express its sincere gratitude to everyone who dedicates their time, energy and passion to making these events possible. Their contribution is essential to the smooth running of competitions and to the safety of everyone involved.
