This autumn, Knokke-Heist is where nature, culture and gastronomy come together. From expansive dune landscapes to lively events, the Zwin region invites you to discover, taste and enjoy. Stroll through hidden gems such as the Groenplein Dunes or the Sint-Donaas Polder, explore the new origami trails, and embark on a bee-themed adventure with the whole family. Savour culinary highlights during Uit in de Zwinstreek, or admire classic cars at the Zoute Grand Prix Car Week. Lace up your walking shoes and get ready for an autumn full of seaside highlights.

A Coastal Town Rich in Natural Treasures

The nine-kilometre-long seawall forms a natural link between the Zwin Nature Park and the Bay of Heist. In the Zwin Nature Park, not only will you find the impressive Zwin plain and a visitor centre, but also adventurous walking trails and the remarkable Doggerland exhibition. The Groenplein Dunes are equally worth exploring: this hidden gem, separated from the Zwin Dunes by Zwinlaan, leads you along adventurous paths through fragile dune grasslands rich in unique and rare flora.

From Bird Paradise to Polders Steeped in History

The Bay of Heist, an ecologically valuable area of some 50 hectares, is a true haven for a wide variety of birds, from waders to waterfowl, thanks to its nutrient-rich mudflats. From here, the Lichtenlijn takes you to three unique nature reserves: Sashul, Vuurtorenweiden, and the Clay Pits of Heist. Those who prefer history to nature can head to the Sint-Donaas Polder in Westkapelle. Over the past centuries, nearly every power that ruled the Low Countries left its mark here – from Spaniards and Austrians to Dutch, French and Germans.

An Autumn Full of Events

  • 27 September – 2 November: Uit in de Zwinstreek – five weeks of culinary discoveries, themed walks, workshops and unique places to stay, both in Flanders and the Netherlands.
